The Diversity Gap in the Academy Awards

Incorporating all people regardless of skin colour has been a rampant theme since the 1950’s. Though much progress has been made in society, the same can’t be said for the Academy Awards. The Diversity Gap in the Academy Awards infographic, discusses the predominately Caucasian winners. Of the statistics, we find that in the past 85 years, only one percent of Best Actress winners have been a person of colour. Additional mind-boggling statistics include the lack of people of colour as producers, writers, actors, Academy voters, and the notion that less than four percent of Oscars have been awarded to people of colour.
